Types of Canadian Visitor Visa
  • Single-Entry Visa: As the name suggests, the single-entry visa allows travellers to enter the country once only. However, the bearers of a valid US visa are allowed to enter Canada multiple times from the US till the Canadian visa lasts.
  • Multiple-Entry Visa : With a multiple-entry visa, you can exit and re-enter Canada multiple times till the visa lasts. In each visit, you will be allowed to stay in Canada for six months after which you will be required to make an exit which can be brief or a long one. The validity period for Canada multiple-entry visas can be up to 10 years but is at the discretion of the visa issuing authority.

NOTE: The applicant doesn’t get to choose the visa type when applying; instead, they’re automatically considered for either of the visas depending on their unique cases.

  • Transit Visa : If you have a stopover of 48 hours or less in Canada en-route to a different country, you will require a Transit Visa. There’s no fee for transit visa and can be issued both as single- or multiple-entry visa. To be granted this visa, the applicant must produce their onward ticket and visa.

As mentioned before, the validity of the visitor visa is determined by the visa officer. Usually, a single-entry visa should last for six months while multiple-entry visas can be valid for up to 10 years. It is important to note that the validity date is for entering the country, not leaving it. It must also be understood that visa validity cannot exceed the validity of your passport. So, if you are planning to visit Canada, make sure that your passport has ample validity period before it expires. In case it is expiring soon, it is advisable to get it renewed so you can take full advantage of your Canada Visitor Visa.

The visa validity is determined by a visa officer. Single-entry visas are normally valid for six months, and multiple-entry visas may be valid for longer periods. The validity date is the day by which you must enter, not leave, Canada. The officer at the Port of Entry will determine the length of stay allowed.

We cannot issue visitor visas with a validity that exceeds the passport validity. So if your passport will expire soon, you may want to renew it before you apply for your Canadian visa.

Please note that the decision on the validity of the visa is made by the Visa Officer. On occasion, the Visa Officer may issue a single entry visa when a multiple entry visa has been requested. As in the case of refused applications, there are no refunds in this type of case, as the fees charged are for the processing of the application and are not based on the outcome of the application.

  • A Parent and Grandparent Super Visa allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents to remain in Canada for up to 24 months at a time without the need for renewal of their status. To obtain a Super Visa, the applicant must be admissible to Canada and meet certain additional requirements.
